‘The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition,” May 7-10

Theatre Aspen Education presents Nickelodeon’s “The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition,” daily at 7 p.m. May 7, 8 and 9 and at 2 p.m. May 10 at Black Box Theater. When a looming volcanic eruption threatens to destroy Bikini Bottom, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save their home. The show is packed with “optimism, creativity and a powerful message about community.” Directed by Caitlin Cremins, music direction by Jennifer Sutton and choreography by Kiana Holmes. Locals night at Belly Up Aspen with DJ Lo G, May 8

“Locals Night with DJ Lo G” with Maty and Moonbird and Utopia will begin at 8:30 p.m. May 8 at Belly Up Aspen. Logan Garrison, better known as DJ Lo G, has been a fixture on the Aspen nightlife scene for more than a decade, according to the Belly Up Aspen website. The show is for ages 21 and older. The Artist Talk and Community Clay Activation for “Textures of Topography” will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. May 8 during the opening reception of Savanna LaBauve’s solo exhibition “Echoes” at the Art Base in Basalt. The public can make barefoot impressions in clay, layering marks to those already there. Over the course of the evening, these layers will overlap and change one another. The finished piece will be fired and returned to the gallery later in the exhibition, creating a shared record shaped by many. For more information, visit https://www.theartbase.org. Family weaving workshop, May 9

A free family workshop to explore weaving techniques will take place from 10 a.m. to noon May 9 at the Education Workshop at the Aspen Art Museum. All ages are welcome. Registration is required as these workshops fill up. For registration, visit aam.ticketapp.org/portal/product/66/events.



Dr. David Pickering organ recital, May 12

“Dr. David Pickering, A Lecture and Performance About the Organ” will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. May 12 at Aspen Community Church. This special organ recital showcases Dr. David Pickering, known for his masterful technique and expressive interpretations. The repertoire will include masterpieces and contemporary selections. He will use the organ at the Aspen Community Church, which is the largest organ on the Western Slopes of Colorado, according to the website. Kevin Morby, May 13

Kevin Morby will take the stage at 8 p.m. May 13 at Belly Up Aspen. Two days later, he releases his eighth studio album, “Little Wide Open,” on May 15, via Dead Oceans. It’s produced by Aaron Dessner at Long Pond, who is also known for producing albums for Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Gracie Abrams, according to the Belly Up Aspen website. The record is billed as the third installment in a Morby’s Midwestern trilogy, following 2020’s “Sundowner” and 2022’s “This is a Photograph” — the new songs trace his heartland roots even as he now calls Los Angeles his base. Linoleum Block Printing, May 14

“Creative Happy Hour — Linoleum Block Printing” led by Robin Sturgeon will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 14 at the Red Brick Center for the Arts, 110 E. Hallam St. Linocut is a relief printmaking process in which a design is carved into linoleum, the raised areas are inked and the image prints in reverse. For participants age 21 and older. ‘An Evening with Father John Misty’ at Belly Up Aspen, May 14

Indie folk rock provocateur Father John Misty will bring his wry wit, lush arrangements and magnetic stage presence to “An Evening with Father John Misty” at 9 p.m. May 14 at Belly Up Aspen, 450 S Galena St. He broke out with the 2012 album “Fear Fun” and gained wider acclaim with the sweeping, heart-on-sleeve “I Love You Honeybear.” For more information and tickets, visit bellyupaspen.com/events/an-evening-with-father-john-misty.
