Ashley McBryde really did try to avoid all of this, but a week after announcing on social media that she would not be talking to fans at meet and greets in an effort to rest her ailing vocal cords, she is now having to cancel shows.
McBryde, 42, shared the news on Monday to with a post to her Instagram stories.
“My voice has been struggling over the past few weeks, and as much as it pains me, I won’t be able to play my shows this week,” she wrote. “My doctors have made it crystal clear: my voice needs complete rest to heal.
“There’s nothing I want more than to be back giving you 100%,” she added. “Thank you for understanding. I’ll see you soon.”
McBryde announced last Wednesday in a video she shared to social media that she was not going to be talking to fans at meet and greets due to her vocal struggles.
“Trybe, doc says I’m working on busted up vocal cords,” she wrote along with the video. “The last thing I wanna do is cancel any meet greets or Heaven forbid SHOWS. So, let’s try this for a week.”
In the video, McBryde held up notecards with written messages and also did sign language.
“Hi Gang!” the first card read. “So … I hurt my throat.
“So, NO TALKING if I want to be able to sing to you,” she wrote on the second.
That is when she suggested practicing sign language and showed off a couple of messages including, “Hi, nice to meet you,” and “Good to see you.”
The video was kind of funny, and fans responded well.

“That way, we don’t have to cancel meet and greets,” she wrote on another card. “Let’s try together.”
“Can’t sing but you can write,” Jeff Moll responded. “I expect a new album out of this debacle. Get well soon.”
“Be well,” Lorenda Patterson wrote. “Follow doctor’s orders!”
Unfortunately, it was not enough to keep McBryde from having to miss shows.
