Ashuelot Concerts will perform three upcoming Chamber Music concerts at The Park Theatre in Jaffrey, N.H. on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m., at Stonewall Farm in Keene, N.H. on Friday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m., and at the Bellows Falls Opera House in Bellows Falls, Vermont on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 3 p.m.
British chamber musicians Louisa Stonehill (violin) and Nicholas Burns (piano) will perform duos by Prokofiev, Janáček, & Beethoven.
This program explores how music and literature occasionally combine to inspire even more powerful works of art. Connecting the three pieces in this concert through the lens of Leo Tolstoy – particularly his novella The Kreutzer Sonata – reveals a powerful intersection of music, psychology, and morality, according to a release. All three works are centered in the emotional and thematic space carved out by Tolstoy’s philosophical engagement with music.
Stonehill and Burns have been performing worldwide for nearly two decades. Together they have released four critically acclaimed albums for Nimbus and Lyrita and broadcast on BBC Radio 3. In 2016 they moved to Keene from London, and shortly after created Ashuelot Concerts.
Ashuelot Concerts brings live chamber music from the world’s leading concert halls to rural venues and schools in New Hampshire and Vermont. The concert series features a carefully curated program of masterworks and powerful lesser-known pieces, all chosen with the aim of moving and delighting the audience. For many, the concert series is their first opportunity to experience the profound power of live chamber music up-close.
Ahead of the concerts the trio will be performing to hundreds of children throughout New Hampshire and Vermont. They will be sharing with the students some of the practice skills that make their work possible, explaining what is so special about each piece of music, and talking about why they love their chosen profession.
