Ever since the release of their previous single “Dead”, it’s been a guessing game as to what Atreyu has got going on. Earlier today, fans got another taste of what’s to come with the release of the new single “Ego Death” and its accompanying music video.
Those not familiar with the concept of ego death should know that it’s a process where you basically let go of who you are to become someone new. It’s typically discussed in the same vein as psychedelia, as it typically happens when you take high doses of psilocybin or another related drug. And yes, I know that’s an oversimplification of the concept. You’re here for music, not a treatise on psychedelics and the dissolution of one’s ego.
As far as the song is concerned, it’s grovvy as hell, has some crunchy riffs going on, and it’s melodic as hell at times. To say it gets its hooks in you would be putting it lightly. You can check it out for yourself in the clip below.
If you’d like to catch Atreyu live, you can do so when they support Sevendust this spring. Those dates are all available below and you can get your tickets today.
