Aubrey O’Day has pushed back against Laurieann Gibson‘s characterizations of her time in Danity Kane.
Gibson sat down with Jason Lee for an interview shared on Wednesday (June 24), in which she discussed how she “built a super group” with the Bad Boy Entertainment girlband.
The legendary choreographer was hired to choreograph the music video for Danity Kane’s debut single, 2006’s “Show Stopper,” as well as the group’s second single, “Ride For You.”
“Did they stress me out? Yes, they did. I wish they had listened,” Gibson told Lee around the 1:35:30 hour mark of the video above. “They would still be together. This is a classic case of there are no shortcuts, ladies. I don’t believe there’s shortcuts in this business. And I believe if you stay the course, you’ll get everything that you know you deserve.”
Gibson added: “They all had different agendas and their different agendas created the dissension, the distrust. Aubrey wanted to jump out there and be that star, and I’m like, ‘You were that star but you thought there was a shortcut.'”
When Lee asked if O’Day “had an agenda,” Gibson replied: “Obvious, yeah, it was out front from day one, which I don’t judge. I just say, ‘Why does that mean everybody else is not talented?'”
When X user @BlameEricLamont shared a clip from the interview and pointed out that Danity Kane was “built around” O’Day, the singer responded.
“AND all you said, wasn’t by my design. I was a kid. I had absolutely no control,” O’Day wrote on X. “My agenda prior was going to law school & becoming a lawyer like my mom. And I said NO to the freak offs. And the feds came to me bc there is an affidavit that states someone with 100% certainty witnessed me be raped, not bc I’m in any videos they confiscated- participating.”
She went on: “That lady has always been divisive (which is why WE as a group fired her & hired incredibly talented choreographers (good for the art & the mental) as well as full of shit.. so the last part is also correct. I’m glad she came out of hiding tho.. now that the man who said ‘I want to thank Bishop T.D. Jakes & Laurieann Gibson for helping me see the light through the difficult times’ is in prison.”
Aubrey O’Day continued slamming Gibson in a follow-up post, writing: “That’s why she is where she is now, and tells the tales that she does. You can’t become all that you’re meant to when you are unable to accept accountability, reflect, and grow. She has a lot of buried skeletons. I wouldn’t talk so loud with so many places to dig.”
Danity Kane formed in 2005 during Season 3 of MTV’s Making the Band, of which O’Day was a prominent face. The group went on to sign to Diddy’s Bad Boy Entertainment. After issues amongst the girls and with Diddy himself, O’Day was fired from the group in 2008. A year later, they disbanded, and in 2013, O’Day rejoined, before Danity Kane dissolved again.
Last year, in Netflix’s docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning, she claimed she was dismissed from the band for rejecting Diddy’s sexual advances.
