In a tribute to former Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds, who recently died in a motorcycle accident on August 20 at 51 years old, Bam Margera of Jackass fame said he and Hinds were working on new music together before his death.
“I am devastated and still processing the tragic loss of one of my closest friends Brent Hinds,” Margera writes. “Around the time Ryan Dunn died, I met Brent on the Soundwave Festival in Australia and said to him in a joking way ‘you look and act like Ryan Dunn and we should just be best friends’ and he said ‘ok’ and just like that we were.”
In his tribute, Margera revealed that he and Hinds were recording songs for a new album for goth metal band Amore Ad Lunam, with whom Margera had been doing vocals.
“It has been a privilege and honor working with Brent,” he said. “I cherish the time we spent together working on guitar tracks and vocals that we just very recently laid down together.”
Margera’s memorial post also included a slideshow of images and videos he said was compiled together by friends Stevaughn Decay and Eman. The slideshow ends with a clip of Hinds accidentally breaking Margera’s arm with a golf club.
Hinds tragically died from a motorcycle accident on August 20 in Atlanta, Georgia. According to a report from the Atlanta Police Department, Hinds was riding his Harley Davidson through an intersection when a BMW SUV collided with him after failing to yield when turning at a red light.
Hinds was best known as the longtime lead guitarist and co-vocalist for heavy metal group Mastodon. Earlier this year, it was announced that he had left the band after 25 years.
