Barbarian made Zach Cregger one of the most interesting directors to enter the horror genre, but this year’s Weapons turned him into one of the hottest directors in Hollywood, regardless of genre.
Despite being a massive box office and critical success, Barbarian never got a physical media release. While that’s standard for movies that go directly to streaming, it’s rare that a massive theatrical release doesn’t get some sort of physical release.
This is something that has frustrated Cregger, but now he has a lot more juice. In fact, he might be able to leverage his newfound success to get Barbarian on Blu-ray and DVD.
“Yes,” Cregger told Collider when asked if we could finally see a physical Barbarian release. “I can’t say anything else!”
As streaming services gain more power, it’s possible that physical releases might become less common. That’s why it’s so important to get a physical copy of your favorite movies. Even if you purchase a film on Prime Video, you’re technically just licensing it, and it can be stripped from you at any time with no warning.
Here’s hoping that we’ll actually get a physical release of Barbarian soon. Luckily, this won’t be a problem for Weapons, as it’s set to be available on DVD and Blu-ray on October 14, 2025.
