BBC Countryfile presenter Anita Rani found herself in a tricky spot during Sunday’s (July 12) episode
A Countryfile guest was forced to intervene after the presenter admitted to ‘breaking a rule’.
BBC host Anita Rani returned to our television screens for Sunday’s (July 12) instalment of the BBC popular programme as she travelled to West Mersea in Essex.
The area is where oysters have been cultivated for over 2,000 years, farmed in the creeks surrounding Mersea Island.
During her visit, Anita ventured onto the brackish waters to meet those farming oysters. She engaged with a team examining how the non-native Atlantic rock oyster is impacting the local ecosystem, and whether it could contribute to helping coastal habitats adapt to rising sea levels.
The television presenter was accompanied by Ecologist Tom Cameron from the University of Essex along with researchers Lola and Kristina, who have been undertaking experiments on oyster reefs to discover more.
Together the group travelled towards Brightlingsea to a rock oyster reef. Upon reaching their destination, Anita was eager to learn more as she immersed herself in the work, reports the Express.
Nevertheless, shortly into the assignment, Anita quickly encountered a significant problem as she observed the tide was advancing and she didn’t have the appropriate footwear on.
In a slight state of alarm, she enquired: “Someone keeping an eye on the tide, right?” The BBC presenter then confessed: “Doesn’t help that I’ve broken Countryfile Rule 101 and forgotten my wellies.”
As the water began to rise, she continued: “That came in very quickly.”
As the camera panned down to her feet, she could be seen wearing walking boots as she said: “Look at this. The tide is coming in very quickly and now we’re getting deeper.”
As the water reached an unmanageable level, a Countryfile guest felt compelled to intervene, hoisting Anita onto his back and making his way back to the boat.
Turning to face the camera, Anita erupted into laughter as she quipped: “I know. Demanding.”
Elsewhere during the programme, Anita delved into the Countryfile archives, revisiting the individuals and initiatives that have shaped life along the coastline.
