The track serves as the latest preview of the singer-songwriter’s fourth studio album, ‘Pylon’, which is released on September 18 via Dirty Hit and Interscope.
It finds Bea pondering on whether “self-defence is to be brave“, asking: “Do you start the fight or take the flight?” The laid-back, fuzzy alt-rock tune gives no clear answers, with the artist emphatically past the point where she thought she could ever have everything figured out.
Later, the bass-driven, feedback-heavy cut introduces some childlike vocal chants and a scorching high-pitched electric guitar riff.
“We made it in a hotel room. I don’t even remember what [US] state I was in,” she told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 of ‘Switchblade’, citing “midwest emo” as an influence.
Beabadoobee released the grungy first single from ‘Pylon’, ‘Sun Has Set’, last month. The record also boasts contributions from Pinegrove’s Evan Stephens Hall, Deftones’ Chino Moreno, and Title Fight’s Shane Moran. Matty Healy and George Daniel of The 1975, meanwhile, produced the song ‘Write Me A Letter’.
Along with sharing the details of the follow-up to 2024’s ‘This Is How Tomorrow Moves’, the musician announced her first-ever UK, European and North American arena tour.
The forthcoming trek includes a massive gig at The O2 in London, as well as stops in Glasgow, Cardiff and Manchester. Find any remaining tickets here (UK) and here (North America).
Next month, Bea will appear at Lollapalooza 2026 in Chicago along with the likes of Olivia Dean, Charli XCX, Smashing Pumpkins, Tate McRae, Lorde and The xx.
