Nov. 13 (UPI) — The musical stage adaptation of John Carney’s 2014 film, Begin Again, will play a brief engagement at The Old Globe in San Diego before opening on Broadway next year.
Jenna Clark Embrey penned the book for the show, which will feature music and lyrics by Pat Monahan of Train.
It will play Sept. 6 through Oct. 11.
“We are delighted to finally share that Begin Again is making its world premiere at The Old Globe in San Diego,” producers Stephanie Kramer, Tamar Climan and Nicole Kramer said in a statement Wednesday.
“This project has been a true labor of love, and we’ve been fortunate to bring together an extraordinary team of creative artists to reimagine this beloved story for the stage. With an original score — and, of course, the Academy Award-nominated song ‘Lost Stars’ — this new musical captures the heart, hope, and transformative power of music that made the film so special.”
No cast has been announced yet.
The film starred Mark Ruffalo, Keira Knightly, Hailee Steinfeld, Adam Levine and James Corden.
It followed a group of cash-strapped musicians trying to create something special outside of the jaded, profit driven music industry.
Carney’s other films include Once and Sing Street, which were also successfully adapted as stage musicals.
