Veteran actor Dinyar Tirandaz has died aged 69, his family confirmed. He is said to have died in Mumbai and had not been well for a long time, although further details regarding the cause of death and funeral arrangements are yet to be officially announced.
The news was shared on a Facebook post by the group Parsi Zoroastrians Worldwide – The Hyderabadi Page. The statement read: “Mr Dinyar Tirandaz brother of Late Rustom Tirandaz has left for his heavenly abode. Paidust today at Wadia Bungli, Bombay, at 3:45 pm. Sarosh Yazad Ni Panah. Ashem Vohu.” He began his acting journey in the 1984 film Duniya, shooting him into fame as he went on to star in a number of well-known films and TV series.
Over the years, he appeared in a number of hit films in the Indian film industry, including Hello Brother, Albela, Chalte Chalte, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?, Kya Kehna, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, and Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal.
One of his most notable works was in Nukkad, the widely acclaimed series that captured the lives and struggles of ordinary people, and Byomkesh Bakshi, the beloved detective drama that continues to enjoy cult status among viewers.
But one of his biggest performances was in cult sitcom Zabaan Sambhal Ke, where he portrayed Mr Keki Daruwala, a role which remains beloved by fans to this day.
His final known screen appearance came in the 2017 Gujarati family drama Wass…up! Zindagi. In his later days, he is said to have moved away from the film industry, with the Facebook post announcing his death that Tirandaz co-owned a theatre company with his wife and also owned a metal polishing business.
Tributes flooded in from stars in the acting industry, as actor Suresh Menon expressed his condolences by commenting, “Om Shanti,” while actress Chitrangda Singh shared folded-hands. Actor Uday Tikekar and numerous fans also posted as they recalled Tirandaz’s contributions to Indian entertainment.
