Jerry Cesak, a beloved radio personality whose career began in Washington, D.C. and took him through Baltimore before heading out to California, has died.
He was 74.
Cesak, who was known for his role as “Jer” on the “Jeff & Jer Showgram,” which was popular in California, was a native of Maryland and a graduate of the University of Maryland.
“We are deeply saddened to share that our Beloved ‘Jer’ has passed away,” the Jeff and the Showgram Facebook page shared.
The statement said that Cesak died on Jan. 4 “in the arms of his loving wife, Pam.”
“As he often said, life comes in chapters; Jerry’s was one filled with warmth, humor, and unwavering kindness,” the statement closed. “He will be deeply missed.”
NBC 7 San Diego said the “Jeff & Jer Showgram” was on the air in San Diego for 27 years. Cesak retired in 2015, and in 2016 he and his partner on the show, Jeff Detrow, were inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame.
Fans were quick to reply to the show’s announcement of Cesak’s death with love.
“Most people go through life hoping they leave a mark on people’s lives by the time they pass away,” Juanita Burney wrote. “Jer left a huge mark on millions of people’s lives. He will be remembered by so many for his goofiness, kindness and his complete love of animals. May we all play his kindnesses forward.”
“I can’t tell you how many days when I didn’t think I could even make it out of bed or to work because of depression that I ended up belly laughing in the shower, and then the whole way to work,” Bruce Trites wrote. “Talk about a show that was the soundtrack of my life. This is sad, but the memories are amazing. What a great guy and a great duo.”
