Do not expect to see Ben Shapiro in the front row on Taylor Swift’s next tour — if you were to begin with.
Not after the conservative media star and The Daily Wire co-founder skewered Swift and her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, in a video review, saying it was full of “unbelievably immature” lyrics — especially from someone who is a mid-30s pop billionaire.
“Can you stop being 17 for like, half a second, please, lady? Like, you’re getting married. Can you get over yourself?” Shapiro vented on Friday. “I know, I know we’re all supposed to be on the Taylor Swift bandwagon. I can’t get there guys, I just can’t. She’s 35-years-old, she’s acting like a child.”
That comment came before he reviewed Swift’s new tune, Actually Romantic, which many “Swifties” believe is her firing back at Charlie XCX.
Shapiro noted the British singer was rumored to have dissed Swift on her 2024 song Sympathy is a Knife, and that Charlie XCX is married to George Daniel, the drummer in the 1975; Swift briefly dated the band’s singer, Matty Healy. For those who do not follow Swift closely, like him, Shapiro joked the whole thing was as convoluted as a “Habsburg family tree.”
He then played the song for a brief moment, before telling his producers to cut it.
“I can’t handle it,” Shapiro said.
He then moved on to reviewing more of her new album, which released late on Thursday. He was not a fan — and said Swift should lean into 1) her country roots and 2) singing about her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce.
“More of the same — I don’t think she has the capacity to do anything but the same thing over and over and over again,” Shapiro said. “Again, my encouragement to Taylor Swift is to go back to country music. You’re getting married, go back to country music — sing about getting married and having babies.”
