Check out the best new music from Aotearoa acts released between January 19th-25th below!

Borderline – “Tainted”

Borderline’s new hypnotic single “Tainted” blends shimmering synths and guitars with captivating melodies, shaping a sound that sits at the pop end of indie. The indie pop band were able to get “experimental” on the song, which began with a writing session in Sydney alongside producer James Guido. “The freedom we allowed ourselves on this gave ‘Tainted’ its own unique vibe that we’re so happy with,” guitarist Matthew McFadden shares.

Sunset Tsunami – Dub Till Dawn

Rooted in dub, downbeat, and hip-hop-influenced production, Sunset Tsunami’s debut full-length album Dub Till Dawn reflects a late-night studio approach focused on rhythm, space, and atmosphere. Built around MPC-driven beats, live bass and guitar, and restrained use of analogue processing, it balances traditional dub techniques with modern electronic production.

Bic Runga – “Ghost in Your Bed”

Ahead of the release of Red Sunset, her first studio project in fifteen years (due out February 13th), Bic Runga’s new single offers further perspective on the dreamy indie landscapes Bic takes brilliant strides through on this record. “‘Ghost in Your Bed’ was another song that I’d had unfinished for more than ten years,” Runga explains. “It’s a spooky song of feeling very troubled, especially on a sleepless night, when you feel haunted by something, ‘lying there like the ghost in your bed’ and realising the thing haunting you is of your own making.”
