Bill Maher believes his viewers need to focus their attention on stopping President Donald Trump’s “slow-moving coup.”
During the latest episode of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, the 69-year-old host gave a word of warning as to what’s going on in Washington, D.C.
After reviewing Trump’s first six months in office, Maher believes the U.S. president is “never going to concede power” and is making the right moves to make sure of that. He went on to give a step-by-step rationale as to how Trump’s “coup” is coming to fruition.
He started, “If there was a slow-moving coup, let me just describe some of the steps and you tell me if I’m being paranoid.
“First, create a masked police force. Get people used to looking at that. Normalize snatching people off the street. Get them used to that. Normalize seeing the car, the national guard, and the military on the street.
“Then start talking about crime in the capital, which has always been a fairly crime-ridden city,” Maher added. “This is our nation’s capital, where elections are decided.”
“And then because the crime is so bad, have other states start sending their troops,” the host continued, before showing proof of his hypothesis. “Not just the national guard there in DC, but now at least six other states are sending their troops, which Trump can then federalize.”
“So you’re having many state troops on the ground there, and now they’re under federal control. So you have in the capital a sort of permanent police presence.
Maher went on to speak “hypothetically” about when “an election dispute might come up” again. Despite not wanting to be a “big pessimist,” he doesn’t believe Democrats are “ever going to take power” even if they have a chance at winning because of Trump’s latest moves.
“This is what’s going to happen,” he stated. “I think this coup is going to go off a lot smoother than the last one.”

Maher then put his thoughts out simply, saying, “I am just going to reiterate the one thing I think is being passed over here. He is creating an army in the nation’s capital.
“I just think the presence now of this army in Washington is going to have its toll taken when the next election comes around,” the host concluded.
Maher’s statement comes weeks after the president deployed federal agents and the National Guard across Washington, D.C. due to the Department of Government Efficiency’s former employee Edward Coristine being left bloodied from a local carjacking.
“We’re not playing games,” Trump said. “We’re going to make it safe. And we’re going to then go on to other places.”
“I think Chicago will be our next [stop] and then we’ll help with New York,” he added.
