Harlem Shake’s beloved Mr./ Miss Harlem Shake contest returns with free burgers, cash prizes and community pride

Katie Trausch confirmed as CEO of Modesto Children’s Museum

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) -A Binghamton native who had a successful career in finance in the Boston area is looking to invest in his hometown.

Nate Levy recently purchased the former CVS drugstore property on Court Street downtown, including a parking lot out back off of Hawley Street. It’s in the parking lot that Levy wants to build The JYNX, an 11,000 square foot, $2.5 million performance venue for live music, comedy and other entertainment.

There will be a stage and open area for standing or seating on the first floor and then a wrap-around mezzanine second floor looking down on the stage. The JYNX will have a bar but no kitchen, with plans to work with outside caterers for events with food.

Levy says he’s looking to fill a need in Binghamton for venues that can hold between 200 and 600 people for local and touring acts.

Founder Nate Levy says, “I grew up in Binghamton, my folks still live in Binghamton. I say that I have an irrational attachment to the city still. I’ve always had in the back of my mind that I kind of want to do something for the city.”

Levy says he does not have plans for the former CVS building that faces Court Street and will look to sell or lease the structure. He says the entrance to The JYNX will be down the alley off Washington Street between Salvation Army and the parking garage. Levy has launched an online survey to gauge the interest of the public.
