Binghamton Native Plans to Build Downtown Entertainment Venue

A man who grew up in Binghamton is laying the groundwork for a new live music venue to help invigorate the downtown district.

Nate Levy, who now lives in the Boston area, is developing plans to provide more Binghamton entertainment options.

Levy said he recently acquired downtown parcels that had been owned by CVS. The properties include the Court Street building where a CVS Pharmacy had operated for decades, along with adjacent parcels to the south.

Levy is hoping to build an 8,000-square-foot building on land that had been used to provide parking for the CVS store, which closed in November 2021.

Levy, who graduated from Binghamton Central High School in 1980, said he has plenty of fond memories of the area.

His project, which has a working name of “Jynx,” would establish a “first-class venue” for live shows and dance parties. He envisions a two-story building that could accommodate about 400 people on the main floor and more on a mezzanine level.

Levy said he’s had some initial conversations with city and county officials about the project. He’s working to finalize plans for the venue, which would be located to the west of the city-owned parking garage at 7 Hawley Street.

For now, Levy is concentrating on developing the entertainment venue. He said he make look to partner with another entity to redevelop the former CVS building on Court Street.
