The R-rated slasher has made a franchise-record $7.8 million in previews at the box office, beating the $5.7 million made by “Scream 6.” The new movie is on track to make between $40 million and $50 million, with some tracking services predicting it could go even higher. Seven could be the “Scream” series’ lucky number as it looks to set a franchise record for highest box office opening. The current record is held by its predecessor, 2023’s “Scream 6,” which made $44 million. An opening on the higher end would bode well for “Scream 7” after a year-long delay bumped the budget up to $45 million (“Scream 6” cost $35 million).
