Brad Paisley Stops Concert Mid-Song as Lightning Strikes Twice originally appeared on Parade.
Brad Paisley fans experienced an unexpected moment of terror during his recent performance at Florida’s St. Augustine Amphitheatre when lightning struck the venue — not once, but twice.
The incident unfolded as the country icon was mid-performance. Suddenly, the screen behind him erupted in static, his microphone emitted a noise and the venue’s sound system became severely distorted.
Paisley stopped singing, and looked around visibly confused, before saying something barely audible into his malfunctioning microphone.
Fan-captured video from the concert shows the moment technical chaos began, with Paisley clearly bewildered by the sudden equipment failure. According to concertgoers who witnessed the scene, the problems were caused by lightning strikes hitting the venue.
“This and second one made a whole room of Floridian[s] jump. Thats saying a lot,” one commenter wrote, while another attendee revealed that she “had a lady almost jump over my chair onto my back” when the lightning struck.
Despite the dramatic interruption, Paisley is continuing his Truck Still Works World Tour. The singer is nearing the end of his U.S. leg, which wraps up in Ohio on August 31.
After a brief hiatus, he’ll take the tour internationally, beginning the Canadian portion in Abbotsford on November 4 and concluding in Ottawa on December 13.
The tour takes its name from Paisley’s 2023 single, a song that represents both artistic evolution and nostalgic return for the veteran performer. In a recent interview with MusicRow, Paisley reflected on the track’s meaning.
“‘Truck Still Works’ feels like we did something brand new and also feels like a return to certain themes,” he explained. “But more than that, it’s the feeling of way back when I first started.”
For Paisley, the song embodies his current direction — one focused on joy rather than the world’s heavier realities.
“There’s plenty of heavy topics [to talk about right now]. Just watch the news,” he candidly noted. “I wanted to do something here that really exists for feeling good. Turn this thing up in whatever vehicle you’re driving. It should sound really good and it should take you away from some of those things.”
“More than that, it’s a return. It’s nostalgia,” Paisley added. “I love things that evoke good memories, and that’s what this did for me.”
