Brandy is opening up about her health issues after she walked off stage mid-concert over the weekend.
The “I Wanna Be Down” singer abruptly cut her set short at a co-headlining show with Monica at the United Center in Chicago on Saturday, Oct. 18. An Instagram video showed Brandy walking off stage while performing her hit song, “Baby.”
“Sad we didn’t get to hear The Boy Is Mine but I hope Brandy is okay!,” the video’s caption read.
On Sunday, Brandy explained what led to her sudden exit on social media.
“Thank you all for the overwhelming love, support, and — most importantly — your prayers,” Brandy wrote on Facebook.
“I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago. After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint. Everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance,” she continued. “I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling okay. With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production. I really appreciate everyone’s best efforts.”
Brandy, 46, said she also went to a doctor near the arena, telling fans she has “taken the proper precautions to help moving forward.”
However, she did not elaborate on what medical precautions she would be taking or give a potential cause for the health issues. Brandy also thanked her “sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace and professionalism and the entire crew for their continued care and support.”
Brandy and Monica are currently on the duo’s first-ever co-headlining tour called “The Boy Is Mine” tour. The tour is named after their iconic 1998 hit that spent a record-breaking 13 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Brandy and Monica have collaborated several times since then, including on 2012’s “It All Belongs to Me” and last year for Ariana Grande’s “The Boy Is Mine (Remix),” which earned them a Grammy nomination for best pop duo/group performance. This is a full-circle moment for the two R&B stars, according to an article on Variety.
