Braves sign former Giants, Royals outfielder to $23 million two-year deal

The Atlanta Braves haven’t been very active on the free agent market or the trade market this winter, but they have been linked to pitching and shortstop help.

One of the areas of the roster the Braves haven’t been connected to is the outfield. However, that position wound up being the first one the Braves addressed this winter.

According to Jon Heyman of The celebrity.land, the Braves have signed former Kansas City Royals and San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski to a $23 million two-year deal.

“Mike Yastrzemski agrees to Braves deal.” Heyman reports, “2 years, plus option $23M.”

The Braves are signing a veteran outfielder to a two-year deal to add to their talented outfield. Ronald Acuna Jr., Michael Harris, and Jurickson Profar make up the new-look Braves outfield for 2026.

Yastrzemski is 35 years old and will be playing in his eighth MLB season in 2026 when he suits up for the Braves. He spent time with the Giants and Royals in 2025, as he was dealt at the MLB trade deadline.

In 50 games with the Royals, Yastrzemski hit .237 with an .839 OPS thanks to an impressive .500 slugging percentage.

Since his MLB debut in 2019, Yastrzemski has been consistently a 2.0 bWAR hitter, never falling below that mark, and never reaching 3.0 bWAR in any season since 2019.

In his MLB career, Yastrzemski has 17.1 bWAR, 123 home runs, and a .772 OPS in 840 games. He’s coming off a strong 2025 season, with a career-high 2.8 bWAR thanks to a .735 OPS and great defense.

Atlanta is signing Yastrzemski to a two-year deal, and according to Jeff Passan of ESPN, there’s an extra third-year club option. It’s a quality payday for Yastrzemski, the grandson of MLB Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski.
