Fort Worth

One of my earliest moviegoing memories is nearly jumping out of my seat at the sight of Doctor Octopus.

It was 2004 and the second installment in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” trilogy was swinging into theaters. Only 8 years old at the time, I somehow convinced my dad to take me to a showing of the film that pit Spidey against that dastardly Doc Ock.

Now, I can’t remember exactly which scene made me so scared that my dad asked if we needed to leave, but that feeling of pure terror was felt sometime (or multiple times) over the film’s 127 minutes.

That feeling sparked a love affair with the silver screen, one I haven’t been able to shake in the over two decades since. It’s something I’ve carried into my work here at the Star-Telegram, however, I can’t say that was my original intention when I started here back in 2022.

🎬 In case you missed it:

For the last four years, I’ve been on the service journalism team, covering everything from weather and road closures to restaurant news and law explainers.

In that time, I also dabbled in the occasional entertainment story about a celebrity sighting or Taylor Sheridan-related news bit. But as time went on, and as Sheridan planted his television empire flag in Cowtown, I was writing about shows like “Landman” and “Lioness” in no time.

As film and television production continues to explode in Fort Worth, I’m excited to announce that I’ll be covering that beat full-time as the Star-Telegram’s new entertainment reporter.

What will I cover?

Anything and everything related to entertainment in the region, not just Fort Worth.

That could be what’s currently filming in town, what roads will be impacted by production, how to be cast in a show, interviews with celebrities and how activity is affecting local businesses.

As much as I’m interested in the big ticket productions, I’m also curious about the smaller projects made by local filmmakers in their backyard — no matter if it costs $100 million or $100, if it’s made in North Texas, it’s all fair game.

I’m also open to hearing from readers on what they would like to see covered in this great big state of ours. As long as there’s some kind of Fort Worth or Texas connection, I will put it on the board.

Readers, filmmakers or really anyone who has an internet connection can email me at [email protected]. Or, fill out the form below.

I’m looking forward to this new role and all of its possibilities. I’ll see you at the movies.
