Prince William has been crowned the nation’s favourite royal once again – while Prince Andrew languishes at the very bottom with a staggering 87 per cent disapproval, according to a new YouGov poll.
The survey, conducted on 5–6 August, shows the Prince of Wales enjoying a commanding 74 per cent approval rating, narrowly ahead of his wife, the Princess of Wales (71 per cent), and Princess Anne (70 per cent). All three have long been praised for their dedication to royal duties and relatively scandal-free public profiles.
By contrast, Andrew’s public image appears beyond repair. With just 5 per cent of respondents expressing a positive opinion, his unpopularity has barely shifted since he stepped back from public life in 2019 over his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Public opinion on the monarchy as an institution is also revealing. While 62 per cent say they have a favourable view of the royal family in general, three in ten take a negative view. Support for the monarchy as an institution sits at 58 per cent, but nearly a third of Britons oppose it, supporting Republican ideologies.
The King himself is viewed positively by 59 per cent, slightly less than the institution he leads. Queen Camilla, remains more polarising, with the public split almost evenly – 43 per cent favourable against 44 per cent unfavourable.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain unpopular in the UK. Prince Harry’s approval rating is 28 per cent, with 62 per cent negative, while Meghan fares worse at 20 per cent positive and 67 per cent negative.
Some royals enjoy moderate support but remain less well-known. Prince Edward, with 28 per cent of Britons unsure of their opinion, still scores a majority positive rating of 52 per cent. His wife, Sophie, has similar recognition levels, with 50 per cent favourable.
Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice each have a 39 per cent approval rating, though over a third of respondents say they “don’t know” enough to give an opinion.
The results underline a stark divide in public perceptions – with senior working royals enjoying broad support, others sharply dividing opinion, and some facing almost total rejection.
