Key Points
Brooke Shields recalled during a recent interview that she released her own doll in 1982.
The model/actress said she didn’t like that a likeness of her head was on a body that looked like Barbie.
Shields’ late mom, Teri, requested an adjustment to make the doll more similar to Brooke.
Having a doll designed in her likeness was anything but fun for Brooke Shields.
“No, this was the worst possible thing that could happen to a teenager because there’s one template of a body and it’s like Barbie’s body,” Shields told Entertainment Weekly‘s Gerrad Hall recently during a live Q&A with AMC’s Acorn TV in New York City. “So then you just put different heads on Barbie’s body.”
Shields said her late mother, Teri Shields, had a very specific request for the product from LJN Toys.
“When it came time to my doll, my mother made them shave Barbie’s boobs down because I was 16 and she’s like, ‘My daughter doesn’t have boobs like that,'” the model and actress said. “And I was like, ‘Mom, I wanted boobs. Why couldn’t you give them to me at least in a doll?'”

It was also odd for the star of movies such as Pretty Baby, The Blue Lagoon, and Endless Love to see how people treated the doll.
“My friends in high school and college would put her in terrible positions and I was like, ‘Somehow this is just so weird,'” Shields said. “But if you can make fun of it, it didn’t scar me, but it was weird. It was also weird seeing this doll and there was a fashion head, and you can style her hair, and it was weird.”
The alum of TV sitcoms including Suddenly Susan, Lipstick Jungle, Hannah Montana, and Friends joked that she regularly plays with the dolls, even brushing their hair.
In reality, Shields appears to have access to at least one of the dolls, which she held up and spoke to in a funny video she posted to social media in September 2025.
“You are enough, you matter,” she told the doll. “You’re strong. You’re sensitive. You’re a good person. You can do this.”

She captioned the post, “Sometimes you just need some Monday affirmations with your doll. Weird? Yes. Affirming? Also yes.”
In her latest role on You’re Killing Me, Shields portrays a bestselling novelist living in a quaint town who teams up with a local podcaster, who’s played by Amalia Williamson, to find the culprit in a murder. As the killings continue, the women find themselves butting heads with a policeman, played by Tom Cavanagh.
The series, which premiered in May, has already been renewed for a second season.
New episodes of You’re Killing Me stream Mondays on Acorn TV.
