Bruce Springsteen has shared a new song, Streets Of Minneapolis.
The powerful, stripped back protest song condemns the violence of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents in Minneapolis while paying tribute to Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were both killed at the hands of agents in separate incidents earlier this month. In a statement, Springsteen said:
“I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Stay free.”
Earlier this month, Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed by ICE agent Jonathan Ross in Minneapolis, sparking protests and criticism of enforcement tactics. A few weeks later, Alex Pretti was fatally shot by an agent, further intensifying demonstrations and calls for accountability.
Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota governor Tim Walz have urged ICE agents to leave the city, while the Trump administration and its supporters have defended the agents, arguing the agents acted in self‑defence.
Last October, Springsteen released a deluxe edition of his 1982 landmark album ‘Nebraska’, ‘Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition’, via Sony Music.
His latest album of original material, ‘Letter To You’, arrived in 2020, followed by 2022’s ‘Only The Strong Survive’, a collection of soul classics. Since then, he has put out ‘Tracks II: The Lost Albums’, a collection of seven previously unheard Springsteen records, a digital live EP ‘Land of Hope & Dreams’, and a soundtrack album accompanying Road Diary, a documentary about Springsteen and the E Street Band.
Late last year, he was also the focus of Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, a biopic adapted from Warren Zanes’ book, Deliver Me From Nowhere, starring Jeremy Allen White as the iconic musician.
