Canadian rock icon Bryan Adams has a message for U.S. President Donald Trump, and he’s saying it all in his latest song.
On Canada Day, Adams dropped a new single titled “51st State” on streaming platforms and social media, and the lyrics are aimed squarely at Trump over his threats to annex Canada and make it the U.S.’s 51st state.
“Let me give it to you straight/When you’re talking ’bout my home/You better show some respect/’Cause we up here take care of our own,” Adams sings.
“So let me give you some advice, mister/You might have too much on your plate/Go and load us up with tariffs/But we’ll never be the 51st state.”
He also reminds Trump of the alliance between the U.S. and Canada, stating, “Maybe you just don’t care, but we always stood beside you.”
As the cost of living continues to rise, Adams addresses the issue, stating that he never thought he’d see the day “where everything could get harder/for the working man.”
Reactions to “51st State” have been mixed, with one Redditor stating, “Yea… it’s not great lol.”
However, others appeared to appreciate the song’s patriotic sentiments.
“I could not say I’m a fan of his music, but I do appreciate how he is patriotic to a country [that] actually deserves it,” one commenter wrote.
Another stated, “I knew I liked him for a reason. Good for him!”
One American commented, “I’m a Michigan native and an embarrassed American, and I find it absolutely tragic that this song was even written. I love it, and I pray that we can rebuild trust and unity between our countries. I live very close to the Canadian border, and I love Canada!”

Adams is set to kick off his “Roll with the Punches” tour on July 24, with upcoming stops in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
Adams isn’t the only Canadian celebrity who has been vocal about Trump.
Actor Simu Liu criticized Trump’s tax plan, while Mike Myers wore a T-shirt stating, “Canada is not for sale” during an appearance on Saturday Night Live. Last year, singer Chantal Kreviazuk intentionally changed the lyrics to “O Canada” at the 4 Nations championship to protest Trump’s 51st state comments.
