Bryan Cranston takes a shot at Shia LaBeouf after New Orleans arrest: ‘Get some help’

Bryan Cranston has shared some harsh words of wisdom to former child star Shia LaBeouf.

The star was revisiting unforgettable moments from Malcolm in the Middle alongside his costar Frankie Muniz for Esquire‘s “Inquiring Minds” when Muniz was asked about the one role he wishes he hadn’t passed on. Muniz replied that he’d been offered the role of Stanley “Caveman” Yelnats in the 2003 film adaptation of the 1998 novel Holes, but turned it down to play the titular kid spy in Agent Cody Banks. The role of Stanley instead went to Even Stevens star LaBeouf.

“I remember everybody kind of really pushing me to do Holes just because of the story and it’s a little more dramatic,” Muniz told Cranston during the interview. “Shia LaBeouf ended up doing it, which I think kind of really catapulted his movie career.”

LaBeouf did, in fact, go on to star in countless films after Holes, including Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, Disturbia, I, and Robot, and kicked off the first installment of the Transformers franchise.

Muniz added that he looks back on the role, wondering, “Would I have been taken more seriously as an actor?”

At that point, Cranston wryly interjected, saying Muniz “could have ended up with Shia LaBeouf’s life” and leaning forward to let out a long whistle.

“Keep that one in,” Cranston quipped as Muniz laughed beside him. “Shia, get some help.”

A representative for LaBeouf did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly‘s request for comment.

LaBeouf’s has alienated many of his former costars and fans with his behavior over the past several years. Most recently, the erratic actor was arrested twice in New Orleans after he was involved in a public altercation outside a local bar. He was charged with two counts of simple battery and one additional misdemeanor count of simple battery, and ultimately ordered to attend rehab. The following month, LaBeouf popped up in a Rome hotel, dressed only in his underwear as he asked a staff for a match to light a cigarette.

Before that, the English musician FKA Twigs accused LaBeouf of sexual assault, sexual battery, and “relentless abuse” in a 2020 lawsuit. He denied the allegations, and she eventually reached a private settlement with her former partner outside court.

However, in March, Twigs filed a new lawsuit against LaBeouf that seeks to block the actor from being awarded “exorbitant monies” he sought in a secret arbitration complaint against her in December. The suit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court and obtained by EW, alleges that LaBeouf filed the complaint in response to a comment the singer made to The Hollywood Reporter in October that he claimed violated the terms of their 2025 settlement’s nondisclosure provisions.

Mathew S. Rosengart, an attorney for Twigs, shared in a statement with EW at the time: “This action was taken in response to Mr. LaBeouf’s attempt to silence and intimidate my client through a foolish, frivolous, and unlawful secret arbitration he filed against her in December. We are pleased to have obtained its dismissal earlier this month, and to her great credit and on behalf of other survivors as well, Twigs refuses to be bullied anymore. This is not about money, but about upholding and enforcing California law and policy designed to protect survivors by nullifying illegal NDAs.”

A representative for LaBeouf did not respond to EW’s request for comment at the time.
