Sam Neill, who died Monday, was remembered by Jurassic Park Dominion costar Bryce Dallas Howard.
Her message was accompanied by a video that showed Neill and costars Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum singing together at the piano.
Howard described Neill as “funny, warm, wickedly self-deprecating, endlessly kind.”
Bryce Dallas Howard will always remember her time with the late Sam Neill, her costar in the 2022 installment of the Jurassic Park franchise.
“When we lived together in that little bubble for Jurassic World Dominion, in a hotel seven minutes from set, for four and a half months, I said that if anyone was going to go through a pandemic together, I was so glad it was with you,” Howard began a post on social media. “I still am.”
She described Neill, who died Monday at 78, as “exactly who you hoped he’d be. Funny, warm, wickedly self-deprecating, endlessly kind. A beautiful human being who happened to also be Alan Grant.”
Neill portrayed Grant beginning in the original Jurassic Park, which was released in 1993. His costars Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, who joined him as central characters in the eye-popping dinosaur movie, joined him and Howard on Jurassic World: Dominion.
Howard included a video of the three OG actors singing “Blackbird” by the Beatles at a piano, as Goldblum played.
“Sam had an immense passion for life,” Howard continued. “Generous with his wine, his stories, his time. One of the most unassumingly attractive and magnetic people I’ve ever met. One of the greats, in every sense. He loved his home. He loved his family, his pets, his farm. He was a friend to everyone.”
Howard noted that she was “so sad for the world today but especially for those who got to see him every day.”
She added, “I love you, Sam. I miss you. I love you.”

Dern gave her own dedication to Neill, who played the love interest of her Ellie Sattler in several of the Steven Spielberg films.
“Sam was my beloved lifetime friend,” Dern said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. “He showed me the depths of loyalty, protectiveness and love always with the driest of wit. He was a true and noble gentleman, wrapped up in my dream leading man. I will love you forever, Dr. Alan Grant.”

Goldblum wrote, “The next great adventure begins. Love, always and forever,” alongside several throwback photos of himself with Neill and Dern.
Spielberg himself remembered Neill as “exceptionally collaborative.”
“It was a stretch for him to play a character who acted as though children were messy and smelly because this was the opposite of the loving father he was to his children,” the director wrote on Instagram. “I adored making all the Jurassic movies with him. Along with Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, we will always have our Jurassic family and Sam will never be forgotten by us or his many millions of fans around the world.”
