King Charles will deliver a heartfelt address to the nation tomorrow to mark the late Queen Elizabeth’s 100th birthday celebration. While Buckingham Palace is keeping the contents of the message under wraps, they have released a still from the broadcast, which was filmed in the library of Balmoral Castle at the start of the month.
It is a fitting tribute that the moving message was filmed at the late Queen’s favourite residence, where she died on September 8, 2022.
Standing in the corner of the room with hundreds of books neatly stacked on shelves, Charles is wearing a grey suit and a matching tie. There are two pictures prominently on display. One appears to be a photograph of the late Queen, and another a childhood drawing of the former monarch.
The full video broadcast will be released at midnight and kick off a day of events commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Queen Elizabeth II.
To mark the anniversary, the King and Queen, together with Members of the Royal Family, will view the design recommendations for the Queen Elizabeth Memorial at the British Museum before hosting a reception at Buckingham Palace. The Prince and Princess of Wales are expected to attend.
The Princess Royal will also officially open The Queen Elizabeth II Garden in The Regent’s Park, London.
The King is expected to reflect on his mother’s truly remarkable reign, which saw her become Britain’s longest-serving monarch.
She was a constant throughout a period of unprecedented change, and people across the globe looked to her for comfort and stability.
In his first address as King, Charles said the death of his mother was a “moment of great sadness” for him and his family and that her loss would be “deeply felt” around the world.
He added: “We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother.
“I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”
