The Dawson’s Creek cast came together last week for a reunion and charity event to help James Van Der Beek amid his cancer battle. Sadly, the actor had to miss the reunion because of illness.
Busy Philipps broke down in an emotional Instagram Story after the reunion to address Van Der Beek’s absence. Days later, she has spoken out to share more insight into the unforgettable night.
Dawson’s Creek Star Busy Philipps Calls Reunion ‘Unbelievably Special’
In an Instagram share, the actress posted a carousel of photos from the night. Dawson’s Creek stars Joshua Jackson, Michelle Williams, Katie Holmes, Kerr Smith, Mary Beth Peil, John Wesley Shipp, Mary-Margaret Humes,Nina Repeta, Meredith Monroe, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who stepped in for Van Der Beek, were all featured in the pictures.
“It’s taken me far too long to post about our Dawsons Creek Reunion show at the Richard Rogers Theater last week but the truth is, it was so unbelievably special that it’s taken me this whole week to process the 2 days we spent rehearsing the reading and reconnecting with one another and spending time with Kimberly and the kids,” Philipps began her lengthy caption.
The Cougar Town starlet gushed over everyone who was involved in making the night so special. Philipps even gave an extra special shout-out to Miranda for filling in for Van Der Beek at the last minute.
Dawson’s Creek creator Kevin Williams got his props from the actress, too. Then she got real about Van Der Beek’s cancer battle.

Busy Philipps Sends Message To James Van Der Beek
“I’m so grateful to the fans that showed up and donated and bid to raise money to support F Cancer and James. And especially to James and Kimberly and their children – for continuing to show us all what real love and strength looks like in the face of this disease. James was missed so much but his videos and the light of his family lifted us all up!! F cancer for REAL,” she spilled.
Philips let her followers in on a little fun moment between her and Jackson backstage. It turns out that Philipps suggested they kiss during the rehearsal of the reading of the pilot episode.
Jackson, for his part, joked they had to give the fans what they wanted. Boy did they ever. Philipps shared the kiss as part of her social media share, and they did not disappoint.
Another special moment from the night was when two of Van Der Beek’s daughters helped sing the Dawson’s Creek theme song on stage. It was the perfect end to an amazing night for the cast and fans.
