Buzz Aldrin is mourning the death of his wife Anca Faur.
Faur, also known as Anca Aldrin, died Tuesday, the Aldrin and Faur families announced Wednesday.
She was 66.
Aldrin, 95, the astronaut who grew up in Montclair and became the second man to walk on the moon in 1969, married Faur on his 93rd birthday in January 2023.
“I am so fortunate to have found and married the love of my life,” Aldrin said in the announcement of Faur’s death. “She brought joy to everything we did together. I will miss her dearly.”
He did not share a cause of death.
“Dr. Anca Aldrin, wife of astronaut Buzz Aldrin, peacefully passed away last night with her husband and her son, Vlad Ghenciu by her side,” the two families said in a Facebook post.
“Mrs. Aldrin, an accomplished chemical engineer with a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, served as the treasurer for the California Hydrogen Business Council and as Executive Vice President of Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC.”
Faur was Aldrin’s fourth wife. They started dating in 2018 after meeting the year prior.
“We were joined in holy matrimony in a small private ceremony in Los Angeles & are as excited as eloping teenagers,” Aldrin said when they were married.
From 1954 to 1974, Aldrin was married to Joan Archer, mother of his children Janice, James and Andrew.
He was married to Beverly Van Zile from 1975 to 1978 and Lois Driggs Cannon from 1988 to 2012.
