Following their first single of 2026, “Good Old Days,” Canadian bluegrass / alt-country group Cabin Fever has shared “No Back Page,” an emotional counterpoint in its depiction of fading small town life. The song is a showcase for the group’s harmony vocals, with its story inspired by guitarist Kyle Faulkner’s experiences living in northern Saskatchewan and traveling throughout the U.S. Midwest, where a sense of community often revolved around the town newspaper.

Kyle explained, “Year after year, I noticed the changes that were happening in many of these towns; storefronts closing, more houses for sale, fewer people walking down the main street, and a change in the overall feeling of being there. I was stricken by the parallel between the feelings I had then, and the feelings when our town had lost its local paper, and began to imagine myself not as someone passing through one of these towns, but as an established community member who had spent my entire life there, and who wasn’t ready for the changes that were coming. ‘No Back Page’ touches on those feelings of loss, of unwanted progress for progresses’ sake, and offers a lament on the direction our world is taking these days.”

Cabin Fever recorded both “No Back Page” and “Good Old Days” with producer Matt Weston at his Swamp Songs studio, with Matt chipping in on drums as well. The sessions carried on the spirit of the group’s 2025 debut EP It’s Only Forever, which propelled Kyle Faulkner, bassist/vocalist Jessica McKay and mandolin player Colin Jolly from playing around campfires to opening for some of Canada’s top live acts, including The Sadies, The Once, and Sam Roberts Band.

Although steeped in bluegrass tradition, Cabin Fever see themselves as a modern-day roots music unit, pushing the sonic envelope with the addition of other elements to add an extra kick to an already high-octane sound. For the band, it’s never been about sticking to the rules, but instead writing original songs that can connect with roots music fans of all stripes.
