Candiace Dillard Basset is sharing a glimpse into her unconventional beauty routine.
During an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at BravoCon’s Drag Show Afterparty on Nov. 15, the The Real Housewives of Potomac alum revealed that, when it comes to balancing her career with being a mother to 13-month-old son Jet Maxwell, she relies on one simple secret.
“I think I’m managing it all,” Candiace expressed to PEOPLE. “I think my secret — and I don’t condone this, so don’t call me when your face breaks out — I sleep in my makeup. That’s how I make it.”
Indeed, the reality star emphasized that her schedule can become quite overwhelming at times.

“I’ll have back to back, three interviews and two Zoom calls, and then I’ll have to wake up the next morning and do a news interview and I have to sleep in my makeup,” she explained, noting that she also relies on a satin pillowcase to maintain her overnight glam. “Otherwise, I would literally … I would be a rat, a dirty moldy rat.”
Candiace welcomed her first baby with husband Chris Bassett in the early hours of Oct. 3, 2024. And even when she was enduring the physical demands of child labor, the former Bravo star admitted that she took a 10-minute break to make sure she was camera-ready.
“My epidural had kicked in, I was 10 cm. dilated and my doctor comes and goes, ‘Okay, we’re ready for you to push,’ ” Candiace recalled to PEOPLE earlier this month. “And I said, ‘Well … if we’re going to get started, I would like to put [on] my makeup because I need to give birth looking like something. I know we’re going to be taking pictures right after and I need to look right! My son isn’t meeting me looking haggard like I just gave birth! And I can’t be putting on makeup with my baby in my hands.’ “

So, she committed to putting on a bit of makeup in between contractions and pushes. “My doula was there, holding up a mirror and a ring light while I was get my face right,” she continued. “I had pin curls in, so I was taking those out. And my doctor was so supportive. She was like, ‘Yes, let’s do it!’ “
Her husband, on the other hand, wasn’t as thrilled about the endeavor.
“Chris was just sitting there looking at me like, ‘This chick is so bougie.’ He was just shaking his head,” Candiace teased. “But make no mistake, if I could have had glam in there, I would have! It had to be this way.”
