‘Understanding your customer and finding out who they want to see’ helps determine lineup at Casino Rama’s entertainment centre, says official
From big bands like Barenaked Ladies to solo acts like Chelsea Handler, the Casino Rama entertainment centre aims to have something for everyone.
The venue attracts people of all ages: grandparents, little ones, and those in between. It’s a unique atmosphere with varied performances for various demographics.
“You want to make sure that you’re having a varied platform of entertainment, but I think the most exciting thing about the Casino Rama space is it’s a smaller venue. It’s got 5,000 seats, but it creates that really intimate concert,” said Tanya Gabara, Gateway Casinos & Entertainment director of public relations.
She describes seeing popular acts like Kane Brown in a smaller environment — not a 20,000-seat stadium — as a special feature of Casino Rama.
The entertainment centre is a department of its own within the casino. There are various nuts and bolts to its operations. Scheduling performers and determining what acts to bring in and when is a task that’s done in co-ordination with the casino’s partners.
The details of and budget for those operations are not something Gateway would reveal, Gabara said. She confirmed the revenue generated by the entertainment centre alone is worth the effort.
Plenty of that effort is keeping up on trends — “listening to the current music and … understanding your customer and finding out who they want to see,” she said.
Other challenges, like booking entertainment or post-pandemic attendance levels, are now few and far between.
“I think engagement with concerts and with that kind of entertainment is where it was. I think people are embracing it the way they did,” said Gabara.
“You’ve got to make it enticing for people to spend their entertainment dollars, wherever that is and whatever that looks like.”
For those who wish to spend their entertainment dollars at Casino Rama, tickets to shows are available on the casino’s website through Ticketmaster or can be purchased in person at the box office.
The box office is only open on show days.
This, Gabara said in an email, is based on customer preferences.
She said most people prefer to “purchase tickets online via the Ticketmaster website, through their My Club Rewards card (also online) or by calling Casino Rama directly.”
“The box office also serves as the pickup location for patrons that have booked concert tickets through our My Club Rewards program. Members can earn discounts and free tickets as part of our loyalty program.”
Patrons have options. They can choose an extravagant outing — a show, a stay at the hotel, spa treatment, food and shops — all behind the casino’s doors.
A night out to a concert with friends, Gabara said, can turn into an experience at the casino as well if they choose.
The age-restricted area is far from a setback with the many other amenities available, so the revenue generated from the all-ages entertainment centre is a key facet to the casino, she said.
“Obviously, the casino is 19-plus, but (in) the other areas, we really try and make them accessible and available to as many folks as we can,” said Gabara.
As for the future of the entertainment centre, she said there is always an eye for something new. There are no specific plans for expansion or change. It will continue to provide the space for an array of events.
“It is available for the community to book and host their events in. We’ve done trade shows, we’ve done galas, those types of things,” Gabara said.
Continuing to provide first-class entertainment options to its patrons is the vision moving forward, she stressed.
