Cassie reacted to ex-boyfriend Sean “Diddy” Combs four-year prison sentence in a statement shared via her lawyer.
“While nothing can undo the trauma caused by Combs, the sentence imposed today recognizes the impact of the serious offenses he committed,” attorney Douglas Wigdor told Us Weekly on Friday, October 3. “We are confident that with the support of her family and friends, Ms. Ventura will continue healing knowing that her bravery and fortitude have been an inspiration to so many.”
Diddy was sentenced to 50 months in prison on Friday following his July conviction on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted on the more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. (Diddy pleaded not guilty to the charges and denied all the allegations against him.)
Cassie, who dated Diddy off and on from 2007 to 2018, was one of the key witnesses in Diddy’s federal trial, which began in May. Over the course of four days, Cassie, who was then pregnant with her and husband Alex Fine’s third baby, testified about physical and sexual abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of Diddy during their relationship.
Much of her testimony focused on Diddy’s alleged “freak offs,” which Cassie (full name Casandra Ventura) claimed involved the hiring of escorts for sex. “The freak offs became a job where there was no space to do anything else but to recover and just try to feel normal again,” she told the court, alleging that these parties could last anywhere from 36 hours to four days and involved having sex with “strangers” while using drugs and alcohol. With breaks, she claimed, freak offs could last even longer, and she’d then need additional time to recover from dehydration, sleep deprivation and drug use.
Cassie previously filed a lawsuit against Diddy in November 2023, accusing him of physical and sexual abuse during their relationship. He denied her allegations in a statement via his lawyer, and they settled out of court one day later. During the trial, Cassie revealed that Diddy paid her $20 million.
Six months later, celebrity.land published leaked surveillance footage that showed Diddy assaulting Cassie in a Los Angeles hotel. That footage was presented as evidence during the trial, and Cassie testified that she was attempting to leave a freak off when it was filmed. (Diddy apologized for his behavior in a social media video shared in May 2024.)
Ahead of Diddy’s sentencing on Friday, Cassie submitted a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian asking him to consider the experiences of victims when deciding on her ex’s prison term.
“If there is one thing I have learned from this experience, it is that victims and survivors will never be safe,” she wrote in the Tuesday, September 30, letter. “Although I can hope for justice and accountability, I have come to not trust anything. I hope that your decision considers the truths at hand that the jury failed to see.”
She went on to say that she fears retaliation from Diddy or his associates following his release.

“I still have nightmares and flashbacks on a regular, everyday basis, and continue to require psychological care to cope with my past. My worries that Sean Combs or his associates will come after me and my family is my reality,” she wrote. “I have in fact moved my family out of the New York area and am keeping as private and quiet as I possibly can because I am so scared that if he walks free, his first actions will be swift retribution towards me and others who spoke up about his abuse at trial. As much progress as I have made in recovering from his abuse, I remain very much afraid of what he is capable of and the malice he undoubtedly harbors towards me for having the bravery to tell the truth.”
Cassie concluded, “I hope that your sentencing decision reflects the strength it took for victims of Sean Combs to come forward. I hope that your decision considers the many lives that Sean Combs has upended with his abuse and control.”
