Sims to hold Community Park Celebration
SIMS — The town of Sims will hold its fifth annual Community Park Celebration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11. The free event will have bounce houses, face painting, free shaved ice, a live DJ, vendors and food trucks.
Elm City incumbents plan candidate meet-and-greet
ELM CITY — Mayor Tawanda Moore, Mayor Pro Tem Tammie Atkinson, Commissioner Tim Bridgers, Commissioner Vonica Carr and Commissioner Bridget Wimberley will hold a “Day in the Park with Your Candidates” from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Spivey Park. Music, food and drinks will be provided while supplies last. No alcohol is permitted.
Musical event celebrates Roy Chester Lewis
The life and legacy of Roy Chester Lewis will be celebrated during a musical event Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Wilson Chapel Youth Center, 513 Barnes S. The doors open at 3:30 p.m., and the program starts at 4:30. Cost is a $15 donation. The event will include music by D. Morton and Gifted, The Soul Stirrers, Truth of Zebulon, Long John and the Silver Stars and Golden Jubilees as well as the Wilson Community Male Chorus, Driven to Prosper of Goldsboro, Deacon Jones of Goldsboro and Johnnie Yelverton of Wilson.
Waymakers food plate giveaway is Sunday
Waymakers of North Carolina will have its monthly food plate giveaway from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, in the parking lot of Jackson Chapel First Missionary Baptist Church, 571 Nash St. SE.
Author Georgann Eubanks featured at Friends of Library event
Friends of the Wilson County Public Library will host Emmy-winning documentarian and author Georgann Eubanks on Thursday, Oct. 16, at Larema Coffee House, 109 Tarboro St. The event opens at 6 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar followed by the author’s program at 6:30.

Wilson County Democratic Party meets Oct. 16
The Wilson County Democratic Party will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Democratic Party Headquarters, 1502-A Nash St. N. This month’s program will feature speakers from the Wilson County Board of Elections discussing their roles and responsibilities.

Waymakers plans Charity Carnival
Waymakers of North Carolina will present its Charity Carnival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Casita Brewing Co., 217 South St. S. The event include contests, games and a trunk-or-treat as well as food trucks.
GOP’s annual oyster roast is Oct. 18
The Wilson County Republican Party’s annual oyster roast fundraiser is 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Scott Farms, 7965 Simpson Road near Lucama. Confirmed guest speakers are U.S. Sen. Ted Budd and N.C. Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger.
Tickets are $75 in advance and $100 at the door and can be purchased at Eventbrite.com or at GOP headquarters at 2000 Nash St., Suite B. Ticket prices are all-inclusive for oysters, barbecue, beer and wine while supplies last.
Elm City candidates plan Q&A, meet-and-greet
ELM CITY — Town Commissioner Gil Wheeler, who is running for mayor, and town commissioner candidates Julie Branstetter, Lin Jones, Gabe Merando, Linda O’Boyle and Bud Pittman will hold a “Meet the Candidates” event from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at the American Legion in Elm City. There will be music and refreshments. Candidates will hold a question-and-answer session for those in attendance.
