Reactions are pouring in after Bad Bunny was announced as the star of the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show over the weekend.

Last year, Kendrick Lamar rocked the halftime stage during Super Bowl 59. Rumors leading up to the 2026 announcement suggested that Adele, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift were among those in the running for the job, but the league instead went in a different direction by choosing the 31-year-old Puerto Rican born Grammy Award winner.

Celebrities were some of the first to comment on the news, with several notable A-listers raving over the NFL’s decision to go global for Super Bowl 60.

Jennifer Lopez, who was the star of the LIV halftime show in 2020, celebrated the big announcement by sharing a selfie standing alongside Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, in front of a Puerto Rican flag.

“Now it’s your turn !!!!! bori gang lets gooooo,” Lopez wrote on her Instagram Stories.

Shakira, who co-headlined Super Bowl 2020 with Lopez, also chimed in, writing, “Welcome back to the Super Bowl stage!” and adding in Spanish, “Here go my Latin people!!!”

“Son of a Sinner,” singer Jelly Roll, also celebrated the news, writing, “From Wrestlemania to the Super Bowl- you inspire us all! Much love 🐰.”

Diplo was another to leave a supportive message, commenting, “can I get guestlist.”

Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter also commented on the news, commenting in the NFL’s release announcement, “What Benito has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring. We are honored to have him on the world’s biggest stage.”

In the same release, Bad Bunny also shared his excitement about being selected for the iconic job.

“What I’m feeling goes beyond myself. It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown,” he wrote. “this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”

Fans divided over Bad Bunny’s 2026 Super Bowl halftime show announcement

While several celebrities offered support for the NFL’s selection of Bad Bunny, many fans complained about it.

“Nobody wanted this,” one fan complained on the NFL’s post announcing the Puerto Rican-born singer as the upcoming halftime show performer.

“What middle aged man wants to hear Bad Bunny,” another person wrote.

“Will there be subtitles? Asking for 90% of the country,” a third said.

“NFL can’t read the room,” another quipped.

“Imagine your team getting dog walked by half time and this guy comes out singing nonsense that no one understands,” someone else complained.

Bad Bunny is well-known for being one of the most popular musicians in Latin America.

The three-time Grammy Award winner and eight-time Billboard Music Awards winner has released six albums to date.

He was selected because he represents “the global energy and cultural vibrancy that define today’s music scene,” the NFL said.

“As one of the most influential and streamed artists in the world, his unique ability to bridge genres, languages, and audiences makes him an exciting and natural choice to take the Super Bowl halftime stage.” said Jon Barker, SVP of Global Event Production for the NFL. “We know his dynamic performances, creative vision, and deep connection with fans will deliver the kind of unforgettable experience we’ve come to expect from this iconic cultural moment.”

“Me Porto Benito” and “Titi Me Pregunto” are two of Bad Bunny’s most-popular streamed Spotify songs, in addition to his highest charting song “DAKITI.”

Super Bowl LX will air on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
