Chance the Rapper Says He’s ‘Locked In Forever’ with Ex-Wife Kirsten Corley

Chance the Rapper and his ex-wife Kirsten Corley are on good terms as exes and co-parents.

The Star Line artist, who settled his divorce from Corley in January, was given the floor to discuss how he and Corley are navigating co-parenting on the Friday (Sept. 5) episode of Cam Newton‘s Funky Friday podcast. Chance began by saying that the arrangement isn’t “perfect.” “I’m not going to make it seem like I send her ‘Grand rising, queen’ every day,” he joked.

“We’re two humans that have known each other forever it feels like. We share two other humans and we share a city and we share all of our friends,” he continued about Corley, who he was married to for five years. “No matter what, even if none of that s**texisted, we’d be locked in forever.”

The Grammy winner added that moments when co-parents aren’t on the “exact same page” is when it usually involves their children. Chance and Corley share two daughters, Kensli, 9, and Marli, 6.

“It ain’t even really nothing else to not be on the same page about,” he continued. “So, like, with that in mind and understanding how much we both love our kids and we’re both in our 30s now, we learn how to make concessions to do what’s best for the kids.”

The Chicago native explained that he and Corley are “learning how to be a unit” as their daughters are going to be “extremely important to their communities, to their families, and to each other.”

“So, we trying to continuously instill that unity that ain’t nobody coming between us,” Chance continued, adding that the family still travels together.

“I don’t think that that’s the only way to have a positive relationship, too,” he explained. “I know some people that don’t talk to their BD at all, don’t talk to their BM at all. Like, they don’t have no relationship and that’s what’s healthiest for them.”

“But, I think for what we aspire to do–and not even aspire–but what we have to
do with our kids like it only makes sense for us to be on the same page.”

The “Space & Time” artist also said that it’s been “hard” to give himself grace after the divorce. “I’m also working, I’m trying to be as present as possible for my kids,” he said.

“As water to anything that is not what I want to hear as
possible. I don’t know. I feel like as a man, I don’t mean to say it like that, but like just how I understand that word and how I was raised, it’s not always going to be easy. It’s not always going to be time to go to sleep. …It’s gonna be what it is. And it’s like how do we Harlem shake through the pressure to end up like looking like everything was cool the whole time once we get to the end.”

Chance previously shared that he isn’t in a rush for marriage again, although he has “respect” for it.
