According to Variety, Channing Tatum has let the cat out of the bag regarding 23 Jump Street. The popular actor has made the claim that a script exists, and it is hilarious. However, the film is likely never to be created due to the greedy producer, Neal H. Moritz. Tatum alleges that the producer is requesting an insane some to return to what could be an incredibly popular film trilogy.
“Neal H. Moritz’s price for a producer fee is huge … And to be honest, that’s what’s killing it,” Tatum said.
This is one of the first times Tatum has brazenly called out another figure in the industry. While Moritz’s decision to request such a large some of money is reprehensible, many argue that Tatum calling him out is equally bad. Nevertheless, it is probably Channing’s best attempt to get more eyes on the film and for another sequel to actually be created. The first two films have received widespread critical acclaim, but there might never be a third.
As of right now, there has been no other news concerning 23 Jump Street other than the questionable practices of the director. It currently appears like the studio has no plans to pay the former director or choose a new one. Unfortunately, this leaves the project in limbo for the foreseeable future.
Overall, Channing Tatum’s claims about the director seem like nothing more than a desperate bid for the film to be created. While there is likely no possibility for it to come to fruition now, sufficient eyes on the problem could cause the director to cave. However, it’s more likely that the project will remain in limbo indefinitely.
