If you, like us, enjoy a celebrity c-suite appointment, then Charlie Puth has some good news for you. He’s been appointed as chief music officer at music-tech firm Moises.
The company, which makes AI-powered tools for musicians, said that Puth will “collaborate on artist-focused features, help shape creative direction, and ensure the platform continues to reflect how musicians actually work”.
Moises, which has signed up more than 70 million users so far, has also launched a remix contest based on Puth’s latest single ‘Beat Yourself Up’, making the stems available within its app for people to work with.
Puth praised the app and said he has been using it “in my own creative process for years” – so he does appear to have some prior engagement with Moises, rather than this being simply an endorsement or equity-driven promotional partnership.
He joins the annals of musicians featuring in appointment announcements, running back to the days of Alicia Keys as Blackberry’s global creative director (2013); Lady Gaga as Polaroid’s creative director (2010) and Will I Am as director of creative innovation at Intel (2011).
More recently, we’ve seen John Legend take not one but two chief music officer roles – at meditation service Headspace and NFTs startup Our Happy Company. Pharrell Williams bagged his own web3 job as chief brand officer at Doodles, while Wyclef Jean is chief music officer at superfan platform OpenWav.
