Prince Louis has once again emerged as the unexpected star of Trooping the Colour, drawing attention with a series of playful expressions and reactions during the King’s official birthday celebrations in London.
The eight-year-old royal entertained crowds and royal watchers throughout Saturday’s event, pulling faces and peering over Buckingham Palace’s balcony as members of the Royal Family gathered to watch the Royal Air Force flypast.
Standing alongside Prince George, Princess Charlotte, the Prince and Princess of Wales, King Charles and Queen Camilla, Louis appeared captivated by the spectacle unfolding below.
The youngest Wales child also joined his family in the traditional carriage procession earlier in the day, sitting beside his mother, the Princess of Wales.
Images from the event showed Louis making a surprised expression as he looked out towards the crowd, continuing a pattern that has made him one of the most talked-about figures at recent royal appearances.
His latest appearance comes after several memorable Trooping the Colour moments in previous years.
In 2025, Louis was seen chatting and laughing with Prince George during the carriage procession before the family later appeared together on the Buckingham Palace balcony.
The year before, the young prince attracted attention when he danced along to military music during the ceremony.
Princess Charlotte was later seen stepping in as the siblings exchanged words.
According to lip reader Nicola Hickling, Charlotte appeared to tell her younger brother: “You have to stop doing that. Watch the parade.”
Louis reportedly replied: “I won’t.”
Charlotte then allegedly responded: “Do as you’re told.”
Louis answered: “Nope.”
Body language expert Judi James later suggested Charlotte had taken on a supportive role during the event, which marked the Princess of Wales’ return to public duties amid cancer treatment.
“There were strong hints that Charlotte is the child primarily protecting and supporting Kate at this event,” Ms James told The Sun.
During Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022, Louis generated headlines around the world after making a series of animated facial expressions while sitting beside his mother.
The Prince and Princess of Wales later acknowledged their son’s behaviour on social media, writing: “We all had an incredible time, especially Louis…”
Louis has also previously drawn attention for his enthusiasm while greeting crowds.
During Trooping the Colour in 2025, he continued waving long after other members of the family had stopped.
Prince George was later seen gently touching his brother’s arm and telling him to “stop”.
According to a lip reader, Louis later asked his brother: “Should I wave?”
George reportedly replied: “It’s up to you.”
Louis then responded: “Let’s do it together.”
Trooping the Colour is held each June to celebrate the sovereign’s official birthday and features more than 1,400 soldiers, hundreds of horses and military musicians on Horse Guards Parade in central London.
