Christopher Cross will perform at the Stiefel Theatre on March 21.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. this Friday, Nov. 21. They can be purchased online at stiefeltheatre.org, by phone at 785-827-1998 or at the theater box office, according to a community announcement.
Cross emerged in the music industry with his self-titled debut album in 1980. The album earned him five Grammy Awards, including the “Big Four” awards: Record of the Year for “Sailing,” Album of the Year, Song of the Year for “Sailing” and Best New Artist.
Over his career, Cross has sold more than 10 million albums. His achievements include five Grammys, an Oscar, a Golden Globe, an Emmy nomination and five Top 10 singles. Within a year of his debut album’s release, Cross collaborated with Burt Bacharach to write “Arthur’s Theme” for the movie “Arthur,” which won an Academy Award for Best Song.
In 1983, Cross released “Another Page,” which featured the Top 10 singles “All Right” and “Think of Laura.” His song “Swept Away,” composed for the television series “Growing Pains,” was nominated for an Emmy.
Since 2007, Cross has released eight albums of new material, including “A Christopher Cross Christmas” and “The Café Carlyle Sessions,” which features jazz treatments of his hits and favorites. These were inspired by a residency at the Hotel Carlyle in New York City.
His 2018 album, “Take Me as I Am,” showcases his melodic craftsmanship and guitar skills. In 2020, Cross released “The Complete Works,” a collection celebrating his 40th anniversary as a recording artist. This set includes all 12 previously released CDs, a CD of singles and bonus tracks, and a pink vinyl featuring one track from each album selected by Cross.
The COVID-19 pandemic delayed his 40th anniversary tour, but Cross has resumed performing. His concerts feature songs from his Grammy-winning debut album, including “Sailing” and “Ride Like the Wind,” as well as material from his extensive catalog.
Cross’s journey in music began in Texas, where he worked as a drum technician for Ginger Baker and purchased equipment from Jimmy Page. He also played lead guitar for Deep Purple when Ritchie Blackmore was unable to perform. Over the years, Cross has established himself as a respected singer-songwriter and guitarist, continuing to share his music with audiences worldwide.
Concert dates can be found on the tour section of his website, www.christophercross.com.
