Taylor Swift has long been praised as one of the best songwriters of our time, but it wasn’t until Thursday that she was honored for her songwriting skills.
And a Cincinnati-born star was there to induct her.
The singer-songwriter entered the Songwriters Hall of Fame on June 11, becoming the youngest female songwriter ever inducted into the organization. The honor comes 20 years after the release of “Tim McGraw,” the debut single that launched her recording career in 2006.

The Eras Tour mastermind attended the ceremony alongside her parents, Scott Swift and Andrea Swift; her brother, Austin Swift; and her future in-laws, Donna Kelce and Ed Kelce. Her fiancé, UC Bearcats football alum, Travis Kelce, arrived as the event got underway.
Cincinnati-born star inducts Taylor Swift
Swift’s induction speech came from none other than the acclaimed Cincinnati-born filmmaker Steven Spielberg, who compared Swift’s cultural impact to some of the most influential songwriters in modern history and praised her ability to connect with listeners.
“A woman who has no peers when it comes to shattering records as a writer, singer and storyteller, a singular artist and a genuine phenomenon,” Spielberg said of Swift.
His speech ran about eight minutes and it covered everything from songwriting to artificial intelligence.
Why Taylor Swift wanted Steven Spielberg to induct her
In her acceptance speech, Swift said she thought of Spielberg as an option immediately when listing her creative influences. To her delight, the “Jurassic Park” director accepted. Spielberg sat alongside Swift, Kelce and their families at the gala, and he had effusive praise for the singer.
Not only did he give her induction speech, but like a true director, Spielberg also took a video of Swift and Kelce dancing together. The moment went viral, with Vanity Fair posting the video to its TikTok page.
Like Swift, Spielberg is also having a big week, with his new blockbuster film “Disclosure Day” hitting theaters nationwide June 12. The movie stars Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor, who recently starred in the 2025 Cincinnati-shot film, “The Mastermind.”
