The post Clipse Make History as First Rappers to Perform at the Vatican appeared first on Consequence.

Clipse continued their momentous comeback run on Saturday, September 13th, becoming the first rap act to perform at the Vatican City. Watch a replay below.

The Voices of Fire Choir backed Clipse as Pusha T and Malice performed the most church-friendly song from their catalog: “The Birds Don’t Sing.” With featured artist John Legend on hand, the brothers Thornton bared their souls about the tragic losses of their parents to a massive crowd of over 253,000 people in St. Peter’s Square.

It was all part of “Grace for the World,” a concert co-directed by Clipse’s longtime collaborator Pharrell Williams. The event celebrated the 2025 Jubilee and closed out the third annual World Meeting on Human Fraternity, described in a press release as two days of “spiritual and cultural initiatives, to celebrate the strength of fraternity, offer the world a symbolic embrace, and renew the collective commitment to the protection of Creation.”

At one point during the evening, Williams shared a message of unity: “In this historic moment, I ask you to choose grace. Choose curiosity. Choose them until they become contagious. Together, we will flood the world with light and love.”

“The Birds Don’t Sing” is the opening track of Clipse’s excellent comeback album, Let God Sort Em Out, their first full-length in over 15 years. Read Kiana Fitzgerald’s review here.

After recently completing a US tour, Clipse are set for upcoming appearances at ONE Musicfest, Dia De Los Deftones, and Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw. They also have a limited run of November dates in Europe and the UK. Get tickets here.
