German manufacturer’s ViRAY compact line array was used to tackle acoustic challenges of reverberant Gotham Hall venue in New York at the Libera Awards, which honour independent musicians
A CODA Audio system built around the manufacturer’s ViRAY line array was deployed for this year’s Libera Awards, held at Gotham Hall in New York City.
The Libera Awards, produced by the Foundation for Independent Music with support from the American Association of Independent Music, honour independent musicians and the teams that support them, and have run for 15 years. This year’s ceremony featured performances from Mdou Moctar, Valerie June, Dawn Richard and Aaron Maine of Porches, combining live performances, screened contributions, speeches and presentations.
The venue’s exclusive audio provider, Eastern Stage Productions (ESP), needed a system capable of providing consistent, clear sound across different media formats in what the company describes as a notoriously reverberant space. CODA Audio’s ViRAY is a compact three-way symmetrical line array designed for small to medium-sized venues requiring high fidelity sound and intelligibility.
The ground-stacked system comprised five ViRAY units per side, with four CODA Audio SCV-F compact 18in sensor-controlled subwoofers in cardioid configuration per side. Two CODA Audio CoRAY column line source units were added as side-fills, with four CODA Audio HOPS8 8in high output point source units used as front-fills. The system was powered by two CODA Audio Linus14 and one Linus12C DSP amplifiers with loudspeaker management.
Bill Danilczyk, owner of ESP, said: “Gotham Hall is an extremely reverberant space, so the highest quality loudspeaker system is imperative. The CODA Audio system was the best choice because it has no distortion, is extremely clear with extended response, and is very phase coherent. The accuracy in frequency response on and off-axis is a major advantage, allowing us to focus the audio on the audience and keep it away from reflective services.”
He added: “It’s quite clearly better than any other system we’ve tried in the room over the last 25 years.”
