There’s no excess here. No indulgence. Love Is Not Enough moves with ruthless economy, every track charged with intent and momentum. From the opening blast of the title track to the closing devastation of “We Were Never the Same,” which premieres today alongside a visualizer, the album crackles with a power that feels almost inhuman — music that channels anger, grief, and frustration into something overwhelming and precise.
Love Is Not Enough was recorded and mixed by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou at God City Studio in Salem, Massachusetts, with engineering assistance from Zach Weeks, continuing a production lineage that’s become synonymous with clarity through chaos. Vocalist Jacob Bannon also handled the album’s artwork and design, creating individual images for each song and a striking cover that depicts a celestial witness hovering over a world in flames — an image that mirrors the album’s thematic weight.
Despite their legacy, Converge remain deeply invested in the band as a living, essential force. “We still identify this band as the outlet that’s essential to our lives,” Bannon said. “We give everything we have to it.” Now past what he calls “your average middle age,” he notes a deeper perspective emerging — not just personally, but universally. “I don’t think that’s specific to us. I think that’s something that’s utterly relatable.”
