A statement posted to his Facebook again noted that doctors described it as a “mild heart attack.”

“Ray underwent minimally invasive heart surgery in a Nashville hospital,” the statement read. “In late July, he underwent a second procedure where doctors placed two stents to clear other blockages. He spent a few days in a Nashville rehabilitation facility and is now at home resting to regain his strength.”

The statement also said that Stevens is now planning to sell his West Nashville-based CabaRay Showroom, but does plan to fulfill his previously scheduled live shows scheduled for CabaRay as soon as he can.

“At 86 and with my recent health problems, it’s probably time to slow down, and selling CabaRay is he first step,” Stevens said. “But in the interim, I still plan on doing shows once I’m fully recovered. I still have a lot I want to do in the recording studio, so I’ll focus all of my energy in that direction along with making videos to go along with music from time to time.”

The statement also noted that Stevens loves CabaRay and hopes it can go to someone who can “have as much fun here as I’ve had.”

Stevens was admitted to a hospital in Nashville in early July after complaining of chest pain. A heart catheterization found that he had a heart attack.

The 86-year-old Country Music Hall of Famer cancelled all of his performances through July and has yet to return to the stage.

Stevens actually announced that he would retire following 2024, but that lasted just months before he announced in May he would return to performing on a regular basis at his CabaRay Showroom in Nashville. Stevens said then he planned to sing songs off his newest album, “Say Whut?” as well as hit songs from his past.

“It will be an all-new show with new songs and new stories,” he said. “But don’t worry, I’ll still be bringing along Ethel, Margaret, Gitarzan, the squirrel and other favorites.”

The comedic songwriter and singer has been performing since 1957.

Stevens was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2019. He is also a member of the Grand Ole Opry, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and the Christian Music Hall of Fame.
