At 92 years old, many would expect Willie Nelson to be slowing down…but not only is the country music legend still way busier than most people, he’s also putting out music that’s still just as meaningful and impactful as ever.
Last year, Nelson toured with Bob Dylan on the “Outlaw Music Festival,” released a duet with Steve Perry, and debuted a new THC drink, Willie’s Remedy (to name just a few of his 2025 accomplishments). Now, he’s kicking off 2026 with a new single, “Heart of America,” on the soundtrack of the upcoming Amazon series The Gray House.
Directed by Roland Joffé, the cast of the Civil War era drama includes Mary-Louise Parker, Ben Vereen, and Keith David, and is produced by Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman, according to Stereogum. The Gray House is scheduled to premiere next month…but fans are already falling in love with Nelson’s song.
Commenters on YouTube were quick to gush over “Heart of America.”
“A beautiful American Song by a beautiful American legend. We love you willie! God bless America,” wrote one person, with a second adding, “Such a good song! Leave it to Willie!! Love you Willie! Thank you for sharing your talents n heart with us!!”
“The true heartfelt inner meaning of this beautiful song Willie crafted lies in the words unspoken that lie between the lines. This song brought tears to my eyes,” admitted a third fan.
Willie Nelson opened up about the power of positive thinking last year
It’s no surprise to hear Nelson take an optimistic view on the future. As he told Forbes in 2025, “Thinking positive is the best thing you can do. Imagine what you want and then get out of the way.”
“I think it’s time we try to make people happy and talk about the good things and be positive,” he continued.
As for what “good things” make him happy personally, music is (of course) at the top of Nelson’s list.
“I enjoy playing music, I enjoy seeing people get together and forget about everything except music,” he said. “I think there’s a great positive exchange that takes place. We don’t care what political affiliation you’re with, what color you are, it doesn’t matter if you like music, come on.”
