Chart-topping country singer Zach Top has shut down ongoing rumors after being the latest celebrity to face accusations of “faking” an accent.
In a new viral TikTok video, the 27-year-old singer addressed speculation that he has been faking his southern accent, as some have noted it sounds seemingly more exaggerated at times. These rumors further heightened after it became public knowledge that the I Never Lie hitmaker is from Washington state rather than a southern state.
The young singer, who has also been subject to an online conspiracy theory that he’s related to country legend Alan Jackson, addressed the rumors during an interview with journalist Gabe Mercer.
During the interview, she asked, “So you’re from Sunnyside, but there’s a lot of speculation about your accent. Can you talk about that?”
To this, Zach replied, “All I know really is I’ve been practicing it since I was a baby. I liked how all them old country guys sang so I figured I’d talk like them too. And yeah since I’ve been in Nashville it’s just been accentuated I guess.”
While a third person shared, “my son got teased in school because of his southern accent, they would ask where is your parents from? he would say my dad / yakima, mom / southern California. My son listens to old school country since he was a baby and sounds like alan jackson.”
Another fan simply commented, “Keeping Country Music real.”
Zach originally grew up on a ranch in Sunnyside, Washington. He first got his musical start performing as part of a bluegrass band with his siblings, named the Top String. Later, he relocated to Colorado, where he attended college for engineering, but later dropped out to move to Nashville and pursue his love for country music.
Now Zach is currently on his Cold Beer & Country Music Tour, performing at music festivals and headline shows across the country. Some of his upcoming tour dates include shows in Texas, Colorado, Virginia, and Maryland, where he’s expected to play some of his chart-topping hits including I Never Lie, Bad Luck, Sounds Like the Radio, and many more.
