Jake Owen is baring it all on his latest record, “Dreams to Dream,” his first independently released album, which is taking listeners on a musical journey back to old-school country.
Owen, 44, who has been working professionally since being signed to RCA Records in 2006, is taking a leap of faith with this new record, one he has always dreamed of making since moving from Florida to Nashville. It is his first independently released record.
The 1977 album “The New South” by Hank Williams Jr. served as inspiration for Owen while he worked on this record. He always loved that album and found himself relating to Williams when making the album about being at a crossroads in life and wanting to make a change.
“The first song on the album (is) a lot like my inspiration from that Hank Williams Jr. album,” Owen told TCPalm. “I wanted to tell the story about going out to Los Angeles, making this record and kind of all the dreams I lost along the way.”
When Owen began working on this album earlier this year in Los Angeles, he found himself at a crossroads in his life, wanting to try something new after 20 years in the music industry.
“Sometimes you need to get outside what’s comfortable, what people think you are, or think you should be, and take a risk. I’m always going to chase the passions that keep me moving forward,” Owen said.
